Third Year

Advanced Major Project

Hold them in your memories, find them in your dreams.

Hold them in your memories, find them in your dreams focuses on memory, nostalgia and loss. This project has been a personal journey where I have explored places and sentimental objects that have appeared to me through a dream, and I have revisited places from my past in an attempt to capture a memory. After the recent death of both of my Paternal Grandparents I began reflecting on my past experiences of loss. This series attempts to capture the fragility of memory and arouse feelings of nostalgia whilst the layering within recognises the complicated depths of our repressed Psyche. I have also attempted to create an unsettling stillness within the images to allow the viewer to stand and reflect on their own feelings of loss and nostalgia.

Nature has been used within the photographs as an obstruction, just as our everyday lives obstruct us from remembering, causing our memories to fade into our subconscious.
